Powering the Shift to Electric Mobility: Advancing the Philippines’ Infrastructure with Voltai

When a market runs on two wheels, fleet inefficiency isn’t just an operational headache, it becomes a national-scale economic problem. With a riding population in the Philippines that is significantly larger than four-wheel drivers, commercial fleets in logistics, delivery, and ride-hailing are constantly absorbing the crushing volatility of fluctuating fuel prices and catastrophic maintenance downtime.

Enter Voltai, a pioneering startup backed by AboitizPower’s 1882 Energy Ventures, designed to be the default energy platform for commercial two-wheel fleets in the Philippines. Voltai recently launched the country’s first large-scale electric vehicle (EV) battery swap ecosystem, rolling out the purpose-built AP01 e-motorbike alongside an initial network of 15 battery swapping stations in partnership with clean mobility champions like Cleanfuel and MyTown.

Voltai isn’t just introducing electric motorcycles; it is deploying an all-inclusive Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) operating model. By leasing EVs and batteries for a fixed, predictable fee, Voltai completely shields commercial fleets from rising vehicle acquisition costs and unpredictable fuel hikes. Riders can swap a depleted battery for a fully charged one in minutes, achieving zero charging downtime, guaranteed operational uptime, and real-time fleet visibility through an integrated software platform. Voltai is proving that transitioning to clean, zero-emission fleets isn’t just an environmental mandate, it’s a massive competitive advantage that instantly lowers daily operating costs and improves rider retention.

My Role: Capital Deployment & Venture Scaling
#

Throughout my career, from building UBX into a leading embedded finance platform to managing high-performing corporate venture capital funds, I have focused on scaling complex, tech-driven ecosystems from zero to critical mass.

Today, I am proud to serve as a Director on the Board of Voltai, directly advising the founding team on venture capital strategy and capital deployment. The transition to electric mobility is a highly capital-intensive endeavor, and the early winners in this space will be those who achieve localized operational density first. My role leverages my deep expertise in corporate innovation and the energy transition to bridge the gap between visionary infrastructure building and pragmatic execution. I work alongside the leadership team to ensure Voltai deploys capital efficiently to achieve unit profitability, build irreversible switching costs, and compound long-term enterprise value.

Looking Ahead

As the Philippines accelerates its adoption of EV mandates under the newly established EVIDA law, the market opportunity is immense. Voltai is not just betting on EV adoption; we are building the critical energy infrastructure that the nation’s commercial fleets simply cannot operate without.
